Re: [STDS-802-11] Survey re use of CCK modes (in connection with LB 295 CID 2452)

Hi Sean

Some stats from my  side

Currently, out of several thousand  sample sites, there are 3%  using 5 mbps as beacon rate, then , 9% 11 mbps, 10% using 1mbps, 1% 2mbps
So there is a significant percentage of customers configuring CCK rate as lowest default mandatory rate (BTW, not what we document as best practice)

From all those sites, checking client types, there  are  0.014% of clients that are “really”  802.11b only

regards

Subject: [STDS-802-11] Survey re use of CCK modes (in connection with LB 295 CID 2452)

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---

Dear all,

CID 2542 in LB 295 (REVmf D3.0) proposes deprecating Clause 16, which defines the CCK 5.5 Mbps and 11 Mbps modes.

This was discussed during the TGmf ad hoc meeting in Cambridge last week. Following the discussion, I would like to ask the following:

(1)          How widely are the 5.5 Mbps and 11 Mbps modes used today?

(2)          Are there any cases where it is currently desirable or necessary to transmit 5.5 Mbps or 11 Mbps?

Thanks in advance for any information on this topic.

Regards,

Sean
