[802.3_ISAAC] AW: More material called for in Zerna_3dm_01_150512_EMC_Coax.pdf

Hello Ragnar,

the “FDD” solutions that are in cars today have passed the required EMC tests, otherwise they would not be on the road. The interesting questions is, at what link length, cable type and data rate and whether that matches the requirements we set for the dm project. Especially at the high data rates every meter more or less makes a difference. So, how many car manufacturers have 10Gbps (user data rate, typically 12 Gbps line rate) with 15m Coax or 10m STP cable in series production with one of the incumbent “FDD” solutions today? Even at 5 Gbps (user data rate, 6 Gbps line rate) this can be a stretch.

Kind regards,

Kirsten

Dear 802.3dm colleagues,

Slide 7 of https://www.ieee802.org/3/dm/public/0525/Zerna_3dm_01_150512_EMC_Coax.pdf has the following request:

“FDD comments are based on the public information available. Any help in locating more material or information is welcome.”

The authors of Zerna_3dm_01_150512_EMC_Coax.pdf and members of the Task Force may find the following information relevant:

  1. Most car makers have specific requirements on EMC compliance that all camera link PHYs must pass to go into production
  2. An example of such requirement can be found at http://emc.jaguarlandrover.com.edgesuite.net/docs/download/JLR-EMC-CS_v1.0_Amendment_4.pdf

The JLR-EMC document describes tests based on ISO 11452-2 and ISO 11452-4. The Level 2 tests in the JLR-EMC document are more difficult than the ISO 11452-2 Severity Level IV and the ISO 11452-4 Test Level IV.

It is reasonable to assume that any of the “FDD” solutions discussed in the Zerna_3dm_01_150512_EMC_Coax.pdf presentation pass this kind of stricter requirements on a regular basis.

Ragnar
