Re: [802.3_ISAAC] Modulation Independent Baseline Text Proposal

Hi Ragnar

As I discussed with you yesterday, I have talked to individuals supporting TDD and the attached document is what can be decided now.

For any clause that is still TBD, a decision can be made once text is complete and is the same for TDD and ACT.

In particular, the sections on the testing set up and measurement are currently not completely specified for ACT or TDD.

I do not agree the link segment measurements be limited to Fmax which is previously specified 4GHz. I prefer one limit line for all baud rates up to 5GHz. That helps with lower complexity filter design in the receiver.

All,

In our meeting on April 17th, I presented “Modulation Independent Baseline Text Proposal” (see email below). The straw poll conducted in the meeting showed mostly positive feedback on the text, but number of people indicated that they needed more information and number of people also indicated that they could support but no all the proposed text clauses.

I plan to make a motion in the New Orleans meeting to adopt some or all the text as base line text. I would greatly appreciate feedback on any concerns people may have with the proposed text. In particular, I would greatly appreciate information about:

  1. What additional information is needed?
  2. Which clauses people have concerns about?

I would greatly appreciate getting email feedback, either on the reflector or in personal emails. I would also be interesting in discussing this off-line in the New Orleans meeting next week.

Subject: [802.3_ISAAC] Modulation Independent Baseline Text Proposal

All,

In the 802.3dm teleconference on Thursday I will be presenting “Modulation Independent Baseline Text Proposal” https://www.ieee802.org/3/dm/public/041725/jonsson_3dm_01_04_17_25.pdf

My intention with this baseline text proposal is to move the 802.3dm forward with things that apply equally to the TDD and ACT/GMSLE proposals that have been presented to the task force. I have already solicited feedback from many of you and I have received lot of constructive feedback that I have tried to incorporate into the text proposal.

I would greatly appreciate any further comments and cooperation on this text proposal, and I hope we can move this text forward together.

Ragnar
