IETF design team for experimental I-D of an IEEE 802.3 YANG model

Dear Colleagues,

Please see below a copy of the announcement <> of the formation of an IETF design team to develop an experimental Internet Draft (I-D) of an IEEE 802.3 YANG model.

YANG <> is a modelling language used by the Network Configuration Protocol (NETCONF) <> to 'install, manipulate, and delete the configuration of network devices'. Defining a IEEE 802.3 YANG model would enable NETCONF management of IEEE 802.3 implementations. The stated intent in the announcement is for the draft to be a contribution to IEEE 802.3 in the future. That however would also require an IEEE 802.3 YANG model project which does not exist at this time, and would require our normal process to consider forming.

While the request below seeks individuals that have knowledge of both the IEEE 802.3 standard and YANG, I suspect that set will be very small. I therefore also encourage individuals with knowledge of IEEE 802.3 management, for example IEEE 802.3 Clause 30 which defines protocol-agnostic layer management, or IEEE Std 802.3.1 Management Information Base (MIB) Definitions for Ethernet, which defines SMI MIB modules for IEEE 802.3, to consider volunteering.

The deadline for volunteering is Friday 9th October 2015.

Thanks and best regards,

Subject: Design team for IEEE 802.3 YANG model

[To be cross posted to IEEE mailing list]

We are seeking qualified individuals to form a design team to work on a experimental RFC for a YANG model based for IEEE 802.3 standard. Qualified individuals should have some knowledge of both the 802.3 standard and YANG.

The design team will work virtually, and no travel is required. The work in the form of an experimental I-D will be discussed on this mailing list but the result of it will be a submission to IEEE and ultimately the work will be transferred to IEEE, when they are ready to host the work, for it to be finalized there. Expect the initial work of coming up with a initial prototype to last 3-6 months. You can choose to follow the work to IEEE.

If you are interested in being part of the design team, please unicast me.
