26-Aug-2003 EFM-Cu teleconference
Meeting called to order at 08:10 PDT
Attendees:
Barry O’Mahony Michael Beck Scott Simon Marc Kimpe Mathias Riess (Infineon – Munich) Arthur Marris
-reviewed copper comments submitted so far (only 3 ;( ). None are controversial.
-Michael discussed some items that may need comments, including:
--need to pare down list of allowable profiles in 62A; e.g., 100/50 is not possible within constraints of EFM --Figures in 62C are not in Framemaker; need to be re-drawn or replaced with tables. Barry volunteered to re-draw. -- 62A & 62C contain some pseudo-C code. Other parts of 802.3 have pseudo-Pascal, should the C code be ported to Pascal? Consensus was to not change it just for the sake of changing it. -- “reserved” IB bits are available in the PHY’s. These would be useful to communicate status on encapsulation layer from one side to another. Michael will submit appropriate comment.
-Marc and his team have written a C code implementation of the encapsulation layer. ‘asked if it could be included in std. in order to ease interop. It was suggested that he propose it as addition to 61A (informative), in order to avoid two normative texts for the same function. He also said that his group was motivated to do this due to ambiguities in the current text on encapsulation. He was encouraged to submit comments concerning these ambiguities.
-Initiation. Scott and Barry discussed comments against link initiation in CL45 and CL61. Conclusions: Barry will write comments against CL61, clarifying sequences for loop aggregation discovery followed by link startup. Scott will comment against CL45 to tie register bit definitions into actions described in CL61. Note that discovery register operations in Table 45-207 and only take place when link is “down” in Tables 45-3 & -4 (this needs to be specified in text). Mathias mentioned 10 second pre-activation timeout in SHDSL; we may need to make exception for EFM. He also said it was unclear how a link is initiated from the text. He was referred to various sections of CL61, and the website presentation on aggregation discovery. He may submit comments against this if he feels link initiation is still not adequately described in the text. Barry also has some diagrams that could be added to 61A; he will comment to that effect.
Meeting concluded at 09:05 PDT.
