RE: [EFM-Copper] simulator tool

Title: Message
Mike,

Most people use Matlab, some DSL simulation code for which is available at:
http://xdsl.ftw.at/xdslsimu/index.html

If you want to run spectral compatibility calculations, try the Telcordia Spectral Compatibility Computer at:
net3.argreenhouse.com
I can give you a free login if you want one.

Greetings from sunny South Africa !

We have an engineering student that we would like to keep busy. What would be the best ( open source / commercial but available for academic use ) simulator for him to set up and play with ?     Our interest is VDSL over copper.

Please reply direct to mikeb@bcnkbroadband.co.za if your comments are off-the-subject for this forum or just plain commercial ...

thanks,

Hi,

As Spirent has several different VDSL wireline simulator and noise impairment systems used throughout the xDSL industry, we would be happy to consider a loan of a simulator system to a test group managed by the IEEE,  for a period of time, to help validate the various tables if this would be of assistance to the IEEE and development of the EFM-Copper standard.

Please refer to http://dls.spirentcom.com/Products/solutions/VDSL.htm  for an overview of the VDSL simulators. In particular
The DLS 8100  http://dls.spirentcom.com/Literature/Brochures/DLS8100.pdf  addresses TP1 and TP2 as per the trial standard , and the DLS 5204  http://dls.spirentcom.com/Literature/Brochures/DLS5204.pdf  combined with the DLS 5B19 or 5B22 VDSL noise impairment files http://dls.spirentcom.com/Literature/Brochures/DLS5Axx_DLS5Bxx.pdf  may be of specific interest.

If there is interest please have have whoever is going to validate these tables contact me directly to discuss further.

Best Regards
Steve Courtney, VP Marketing and Product Management

'haven't looked closely at this, but it is publicly-available freeware.

As such, perhaps it would be appropriate to use as the basis for the simulator(s) to be used to validate Table 62B-1.
