Upcoming Meetings

IEEE 802.5 is in hibernation now that its major work is complete. If issues arise which require resolution the best approach is to email the former chairman or vice-chair, and in the case of a problem with the standards, to request an official clarification.

Working Groups

P802.5t 100 Mbit/s Dedicated Token Ring (Status)

This project incorporates the former P802.5u.

Original PAR approved December 1997. The revised PAR was approved in June 1998.

This document has completed its 802 and LMSC balloting and has been forwarded to RevCom by the 802 Standards Executive Committee. It was conditionally approved as an IEEE standard at the Standards Board meeting on June 26th, 1999 in Boston, MA. The approval was conditional upon resolution of the patent issue impinging on the 100 Mbit/s PHYs. The conditional approval was extended until March 2000. Following resolution of the patent issue, the standard was ratified by the IEEE Standards Board on January 13th, 2000.

P802.5v Gigabit Token Ring (Status)

Following major procedural battles, this standard was finally approved by the Standards Board on May 4th, 2001. There are no known implementations.

P802.5w - Maintenance (Status)

The PAR change, from an errata supplement to a Corrigenda, was approved by the standards board on September 16th, 1999.

This document has completed its first LMSC ballot (802.5's first experience of an electronic LMSC ballot) with only editorial comments. Comment resolution took place at the November 1999 plenary meeting. The document was then sent out for a recirculation sponsor ballot under conditional approval rules. The corrigenda was approved by the standards board on March 30th, 2000.

P802.5x - Virtual Bridged Local Area Networks: Source Routing (Status)

This item was withdrawn in 2000 after no contributions were received.

The committee has voted to withdraw this PAR. The PAR withdrawl was approved by the standards board on September 16th, 1999.

P802.5z - Aggregation of Multiple Link Segments (Status)

A strawman draft was presented for consideration at the November 1999 meeting. The draft was adopted with modifications and sent out for ballot by the committee. Work on this item lapsed when the working group went into hibernation.
