With this email I would like to announce the start of a LMSC ballot on Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA)’s consultation “Views on 6 GHz band spectrum sharing and Automatic Frequency Coordination (AFC)”.
James has delegated to me to conduct a LMSC 10-day electronic ballot on the motion below to approve the comments to the administration. This EC motion is per IEEE 802 OM 7.2.1 Procedure, P&P 7.1 b) (majority response) and P&P 7.1.2 (2/3 approval of votes cast) for communication with government bodies and public statements. With that we would like to see everyone respond.
Move to approve document https://mentor.ieee.org/802.18/dcn/25/18-25-0124-07-0000-draft-response-to-australia-acma-s-discussion-paper-automatic-frequency-coordination-assisted-spectrum-sharing-in-the-6-ghz-band.pdf for submission to Arcep before the submission deadline, granting the IEEE LMSC chair (or his delegate) editorial license.

Subject: +++LMSC review+++ a draft submission to Australia ACMA's consultation
To: <STDS-802-LMSC@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>Dear IEEE 802 LMSC members,
Greetings!!
I would like to request the review of the following draft IEEE 802 LMSC submission before asking the LMSC to consider approval of the submission tentatively via a letter ballot in the near future. On 5 November 2025, Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) began a consultation that solicits public opinions on the following matters related to the use of AFC (Automatic Frequency Coordination) at the 6 GHz band:
- the respective roles of government and industry
- potential licensing and authorisation frameworks
- system, technical and operational considerations
- benefits and risks to users and incumbents
- planning matters, such as geographic and frequency arrangements.
A few individuals prepared a response to the administration's proposal and answered all of the questions. The submission was approved by IEEE 802.18 on 13 January 2026 with the following voting results: 20 Yes, 0 No, 3 Abstain.
Link to the draft response:
Reference:Please kindly let me know if you have any comments or suggestions preferably by Tuesday, 20 January 2026.
Thanks and Regards,
Edward
