In reviewing our RPR Study Group project plans,
including approval of
a new standard within 2 years, it is obvious to me
that we will only meet
that kind of aggressive goal if we focus a great
deal of our energies on
addressing the issues that need resolution to write
the standard.
Let's look at what's ahead and what we need to do
now:
Having our PAR and 5 Criteria ready for November is
critical.
However, it is unlikely that meeting this date will
consume all of our
effort and energies.  We must implement a two
track plan between now
and November if we are to remain on
course.
The first priority track is completion of the PAR
and 5 criteria.  I
think that we have made excellent progress at the
meeting and are well on
our way on that front.  One of the action
items that came out the last meeting
was to contact Tony Jeffree to see if 802.1 has any
concerns we need to address.
There may be a few more small items.  Other
than that, we should each review
the PAR and 5 Criteria, reading each response
carefully.  Send a note to the
reflector if you see any area that you believe
requires modification.
The second track is progress on the standard!
I will address this issue in follow-up noetes.
