I would like to conduct a straw poll on the portion of the document
(bs_defs_02.pdf, bs_defs_02.doc posted on web) through the end of the
section titled 'Station' (excluding the terms: medium agnostic, payload
agnostic, source, sink, and port which are treated separately below).
The the introductory portion of the document is included in Q1.
Q1) If a motion was made at the July plenary to ratify the portion of
the T&D document described above, would you vote YES, NO, or ABSTAIN?
(For purposes of this vote, 'ratification' implies that the term, when
used in the 802.17 specifications or in workgroup discussions, would
have the meaning described in the T&D document).
Q2) Indicate whether you agree with the following statement "Adherence
of 802 protocols to the OSI layered model already implies that the MAC
layer is agnostic with respect to medium alternatives" There is no need
for a term to describe this agnosticism since it is implied by the
definition of layering.
Q3) Indicate whether you agree with the following statement "Adherence
of 802 protocols to the OSI layered model already implies that the MAC
layer is agnostic with respect to the frame payload" There is no need
for a term to describe this agnosticism since it is implied by the
definition of layering.
Q4) For the term 'source' indicate whether you prefer alternative 1, 2,
or 3, do not like any of the alternatives (vote NO), or wish to
abstain. (note that the number '1' whould have prefixed the first
alternative).
Q5) For the term 'sink' indicate whether you prefer alternative 1, 2, or
3, do not like any of the alternatives (vote NO) or wish to abstain.
Q6) For the term 'port' indicate whether you prefer alternative 1 or 2,
do not like either alternative (vote NO), or wish to abstain. Note that
there is an error in alternative 2. The words “token ring stations,
passive concentrator lobes, active concentrator lobes, or concentrator
trunks” should be replaced by “stations".
Please send email directly to me with the following template populated
(choosing one alternative per question).
