[STDS-802-3-400G] Upcoming March Meeting

Title: Upcoming March Meeting

All,

I have heard some comments that some are expecting the March Plenary to be a light meeting.  I would like to take this opportunity to correct that perception The Task Force adopted schedule means we need to be technically complete coming out of the May 2016 Meeting.   Therefore, we only have two F2F meetings left to resolve a number of technical details in the draft.

I have pulled the summaries from the respective closing track reports below.  In addition to these items there was discussion about the SMF cable models in this week’s SMF ad hoc call.

Logic Track (http://www.ieee802.org/3/bs/public/16_01/gustlin_3bs_05_0116.pdf)

·       Sublayer delay constraints are TBD, same with skew limitations

·       Define 400G AM fields

o       Made progress, but some more work to do on this

·       Exact criteria for achieving AM lock

o       AMP_valid

Optical Track (http://www.ieee802.org/3/bs/public/16_01/anslow_3bs_03_0116.pdf)

·       Reflection budget remains TBD, but straw man proposal created (see pages 4-6)

·       TDP method remains TBD

o       palkert_3bs_01_0116 serves as a starting point

o       Consensus that methods should be the same for Clauses 122 and 123

o       Need for additional eye mask test remains TBD

·       Stressed receiver sensitivity method remains TBD

·       OMA and ER definitions remain TBD

Electrical Track (http://www.ieee802.org/3/bs/public/16_01/szczepanek_3bs_02_0116.pdf)

·       R_LM measurement method

·       SNR_Tx/SNDR values

·       Allow for use of a module transmitter TXFIR in eye measurement method

·       Additional Jitter tolerance measurement frequencies

·       Pattern generator Jitter values

·       Host Even-Odd Jitter value

The call for presentations will be going out shortly, and per our Chief Editor’s closing report, D1.2 should be ready for task force review next week. We need to close on all of these technical issues.  I want to remind everyone of 802.3 rules regarding proceeding to WG Ballot –

2.8.2 Draft Standard Balloting Requirements

Before a draft is submitted to WG letter ballot it shall in addition have met the following requirements:

a) It must be complete with no open technical issues.

b) It must be made available for pre-view by the membership at least 10 days prior to the Working Group meeting where the draft will be considered. If any changes are made to the draft after the draft was made available for pre-view the textual changes shall be presented for review immediately prior to the vote for approval to go to WG ballot.

c) It must be formatted according to the IEEE style selected by the WG Chair. This style will be selected to minimize the editorial work required for publication of the draft.

d) During a plenary week, it must be approved for submittal to WG ballot at the WG closing plenary.

Please keep this in mind as we prepare for review of D1.2 and the March Plenary.

Regards,

John D’Ambrosia
Chair, IEEE P802.3bs 400GbE Task Force
