Re: [802SEC] 802 Chair report for opening EC meeting is attached

If she got the information from Dave Ringle, then it would be good, as Dave is the one that compiles the administrative withdrawal list. But, if you have a reaffirmation in ballot, Kathryn’s response is in disagreement with what the Reaffirmation Ad Hoc will recommend to ProCom for transition.

10. What will happen to stabilizations or reaffirmations in ballot on 1 January 2012 when this new policy is implemented?
Any reaffirmation or stabilization ballot that is in process on 1 January 2012 will need to complete in time for submittal to the Standards Review Committee (RevCom) of the IEEE‐SASB for its December 2012 meeting. All ongoing reaffirmation ballots will be cancelled after 4 December 2012 and any related standard will be subject to the timelines in FAQ#9. No reaffirmation/stabilization ballots can be initiated after 31 December 2011.

So, if you are in ballot and just stop recirculation ballots, you can fall back to the 2018 completion of a revision date (assuming ProCom/SASB accept the implementation in the proposed FAQ.

Bob -

I quote Kathryn Bennet's email to me a couple of weeks ago:

Hi Tony. I just got official word that standards due to expire 12/31/2001 will be extended to 2018. By then, the standard must be revised to stay alive. Do you want to continue with the reaff and therefore push the next action date out to 2021? Or, I can cancel the reaff. Whichever is best for you. I apologize for the confusion. -Kathryn

Regards,
Tony

The key date for the change in maintenance cycles is 1 January 2012. Standards withdrawn prior to that date will still be withdrawn, therefore, a standard on the December 2011 administrative withdrawal list voted on by the SASB would most likely be withdrawn. Under the new rules, it is clear that a withdrawn standard can be returned to active status via a revision project. Any project in ballot on 1 January 2012 must complete balloting. A standard not withdrawn this year, I expect to be covered by the below implementation detail (revision must be completed by):

9. What will happen to standards that have been reaffirmed or stabilized prior to the policy going into effect?

Standards that have been reaffirmed or stabilized prior to 1 January 2012 will be transitioned into the new maintenance timeline. The Sponsor of the standard will be required to revise the standard according to the latest of the following dates:
    ‐ By 31 December 2018
‐ Within 10 years of initial approval
‐ Within 10 years from the last maintenance action (revision, reaffirmation or stabilization)

If no action is taken, the standard will be transferred to inactive‐reserved status.

Paul -

802.1AE isn't due for any maintenance action until 2017 apparently, under
the new policy.
