Gents, Thanks for the feedback. I took the opportunity to consolidate it into the following – Additional Explanatory Notes: 5.2.b Metadata is defined by Merriam-Webster as “data that provides information about other data.” For Ethernet, metadata refers to either
How does that look? John From: Tom Huber (Nokia) <00004b7cae49adb7-dmarc-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> I agree with Eugene about citing the M-W definition, and including a generic statement about what metadata could be. Splitting hairs a bit here, but I would suggest one small tweak to the additional sentence Eugene proposed. Instead of “information associated with the Ethernet link”, say “information associated with the data carried by an Ethernet link”. (or maybe use “stream of packets” rather than “data” – the main point is that the Ethernet link itself isn’t data, it’s a part of a network, so data about that link doesn’t quite fit the definition). Tom From: Eugene Opsasnick <000019ebd4366f61-dmarc-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> I like the m-w definition. For the PAR (notes section 8.1), I think we could use that and add an example from the CFI/overview presentations of what it means for Ethernet, something like: For Ethernet, metadata can be information about a packet or information associated with the Ethernet link. --- Eugene O.
