Discussion: I've had discussions with primary phy contributors to the 802.3bp phy specifications regarding the optional link specifications. All of them have indicated that RL is the key parameter to consider.
On the basis that further agreements on phy characteristics during and immediately following May Interim will enable RL considerations with more specificity of applicable phy specifications. I've decided to hold-off trying to close optional link segment proposal till after May IEEE Interim .
In the meantime, I'm planning to provide the phy ad hoc with optional link measurements, including balance and coupling attenuation characterization.

Please find attached an update of the optional link specification proposal based on comments received (presented in 802.3bp optional link segment baseline-0.5.pdf). I'm still reviewing a number of comments on return loss and balance but would like to continue review based on suggested changes towards building a consensus.
