Setting subscriber options

The interfaces linked from the "Web interfaces" page allow you to set options. The login version is recommended; some option settings (particularly clearing the NOMAIL option) cannot be changed without logging in.

If you can send Email with a "From:" header field matching the subscribed address, you may want to look at the "set options" alternative on the "Email commands" page.

Subscription options are defined in these categories:

  • Mail Delivery (MAIL or NOMAIL): You can stop and start email from the reflector without unsubscribing. (Note: The no-login Web interface cannot be used to restart email once it has been stopped!)
  • Visibility: By default, your name and address are not advertised to other subscribers. You can change this.
  • Subscription Type: Do not change! The Digest and Index alternatives are not supported.
  • Mail Header Style: The default is a ListServ®-modified “full” header with an identifying tag in the subject. See below for details on header options.
  • Acknowledgements (ACK): Determines whether you receive a report when your posts are distributed to the list.
  • Copies of your own posts: ListServ® can be configured to skip sending you a copy of your own contributions.

You can receive both acknowledgements and copies of your own posts, but the Web interfaces don't allow you to select that combination – to do so, you have to use email commands. You could (from any interface) choose to receive neither, but most subscribers would rather have some confirmation their mail reached the list.

Email header options

With few exceptions, header options can be selected independently for each subscription. For 802.1 lists, these choices are available.

  • FULL
    ListServ® changes "To:" and "Cc:" to "X-To:" and "X-Cc:";
a new ""To:" field contains only the list address.
  • SUBJ
This is the default for our lists.
The same changes are made as for a FULL header; and
a subject tag, in brackets, is added to the "Subject:" line.
  • IETF
Has the original "To:" and "Cc:" fields, and
does not have the subject tag.
  • SHORT
May be set by the administrator to prevent mishandling.
The list address replaces the "To:" field; and
trace information (the accumulation of "Received:" entries) is discarded.
    There is no subject tag.
  • DUAL
Like SHORT, but with some header information embedded in the message as well.
