Ballots and comment collections
Recent activities
At the 2025 September interim session, 802.11 made progress in the following areas:
- With the approval of the P802.11bt PAR, task group bt (TGbt) was formed to develop the Post-Quantum Cryptography amendment. The group met three times during the session. Stephen Orr was appointed and confirmed as task group chair.
- The WG initial ballot for P802.11REVmf (the current revision project) on D1.0 closed just before the session with an approval rate of 92%. During the session, TGmf started resolving the 593 comments received, approving resolutions for around 130 comments.
- Likewise, TGbi (Enhanced Privacy Protection) began resolving comments received from its recirculation ballot on D2.0. This ballot passed with a 94% approval rate. Around 251 of the 492 comments received have approved resolutions.
- TGbn (Ultra-High Reliability) is still awaiting the closure of its 45-day initial WG ballot on D1.0. During the 3-day ad-hoc held just prior to the session and during the session itself, the group worked through a backlog of technical presentations.
- TGbp (Ambient Power Communications) continued its progress toward an initial draft. The group expects to have a D0.2 ready in November.
- At the Mid-Week plenary, the working group held an awards ceremony to recognize the task group leaders and significant technical contributors of the recently published IEEE Std 802.11-2024, IEEE Std 802.11bh-2024 and IEEE Std 802.11br-2024.
- The working group has a new technical editor: Edward Au.

Access to 802.11 draft standards
Draft standards are available from a number of sources:
- If you are a voting 802.11 member, go to the members' area and log in using the 802.11 members ID and password supplied to you by the 802.11 officers. Contact Robert Stacey if you have lost this. During an 802.11 session, attendees may access 802.11 draft standards from a local fileserver, regardless of their membership status.
- If you are an active member of one of the other 802 groups, you may be able to access the 802.11 members' area using the same credentials used to access your own group. If this doesn't work, ask your group's Chair to request access from the 802.11 Chair (Robert Stacey).
- Draft IEEE standards are, from time to time, made available for purchase using the IEEE store or Techstreet.
IEEE standards development guide
The IEEE-SA has created an easy to use Online Standards Development web site that has a wealth of information that details the whole standards process flow, from creation of the initial PAR, to balloting to final draft, and beyond. It even includes, tutorials, and online forms of the various processes evolved. This site is recommended for all Members and Chairs involved.
